The beautiful and precise decoration on this porcelain dinner plate was made with a Korean technique called "mishima." In this case, the artist has incised lines into leather-hard clay, fired it to the bisque stage, then scraped cobalt slip into the lines before glazing and firing the plate again. In the second firing, the glaze runs just the tiniest bit, barely pulling the blue slip out of the precise lines and resulting in a gorgeous flowy depth.
